How the DS2 Project Supports Cluj-Napoca's Climate Mission

Cluj-Napoca (Romania) is one of the 100 European cities selected under the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. Achieving climate neutrality by 2030 requires informed decisions, close collaboration among stakeholders and, most importantly, access to reliable and interoperable data.

The municipality already collects and manages significant amounts of data related to mobility, energy, environment, public services and urban planning. However, these datasets are often managed separately by different departments or organisations. Addressing complex urban challenges requires collaboration across sectors and organisations. From climate neutrality to sustainable mobility and urban resilience, cities need access to high-quality data and mechanisms that facilitate its exchange.

Through the DS2 project, Cluj-Napoca aims to explore new ways of sharing and using data in a secure and efficient manner. Data spaces have the potential to improve cooperation between public authorities, academia, businesses and citizens. By participating in DS2, Cluj-Napoca seeks to better understand how urban data can support evidence-based policymaking and accelerate the city's transition towards climate neutrality.

Ultimately, the project provides a valuable platform for exchanging experiences, identifying common challenges and developing new solutions. By participating in DS2, Cluj-Napoca aims to strengthen its capacity to use data more effectively and to contribute to the development of interoperable and trustworthy data-sharing ecosystems at European level.
